PUTRAJAYA, March 13 (Bernama) - The upgrading of toilets at KL International Airport (KLIA) and KL International Airport 2 (klia2) has begun and due for completion in two years.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said passenger increase due to foreign 'umrah' pilgrims on transit have placed toilets at the two airports at critical level.
"The two airports have received an additional five million passengers and this has stretched the use of bathrooms," he said commenting on cleanliness of toilets at the airports raised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi.
Najib in his Twitter on Feb 13 urged the KLIA management to maintain the cleanliness of public toilets while Aziz wants improvement to klia2 toilets.
Baldisham said all 67 toilets at KLIA will be upgraded gradually.
"In an effort to ensure the upgrading does not affect the comfort of users, only three toilets are closed at a time in different locations until work is completed.
"In klia2, MAHB plans to place 'umrah' passengers in a special sector complete with bathrooms and ablution facilities," he told reporters after a sponsorship signing ceremony for KL 2017 between MAHB and the Organising Committee of the 29th SEA Games and the 9th Para ASEAN Games here, today.
