KUALA NERUS, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Government, in collaboration with low-cost carrier AirAsia, has succeeded in introducing three-weekly direct flights from Johor Bahru to Kuala Terengganu.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the memorandum of understanding was signed with AirAsia last month to introduce the direct flights.
"We made the right decision in collaborating with AirAsia because the airline has remained the world's best low-cost carrier for nine consecutive years beginning 2009.
"AirAsia also boasts an extensive route network to over 120 destinations across 27 countries," he told reporters in welcoming AirAsia's first flight from Johor Bahru to Kuala Terengganu at the Sultan Mahmud Airport here today.
Also present was AirAsia Berhad chief executive officer Aireen Omar.
Ahmad Razif said the direct flights would not only facilitate travel for Terengganu people living in Johor to return to their hometown, but also attract more tourists, especially from Singapore and the southern corridor to visit Terengganu.
Ahmad Razif said the Johor Bahru-Kuala Terengganu flight had been scheduled on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
"The flight will depart Johor Bahru at 1.45pm and arrive in Kuala Terengganu at 2.50pm and depart Kuala Terengganu at 3.15pm before arriving in Johor Bahru at 4.20pm," he said.
Meanwhile, Aireen said to celebrate this inaugural flight, AirAsia was offering all-in fares from RM79 for one-way flights from June 22 to June 25.
The promotional fares are available through AirAsia mobile app as well as at mobile.airasia.com.
