MAHB Records 4.7 Per Cent Passenger Growth In September 2017

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's (MAHB) network of airports, including Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (Istanbul SGIA), grew 4.7 per cent in September 2017 with 10.8 million passenger movements compared with the same month in 2016.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, MAHB said international traffic recorded five million passengers with a year-on-year increase of 10.5 per cent, while domestic traffic inched up 0.2 per cent to 5.8 million passengers.
It said overall aircraft movements increased 2.5 per cent with international movements improved 9.7 per cent, while domestic movements decreased 1.6 per cent over September 2016.
"On a 12-month basis, the total MAHB network of airports registered 8.6 per cent growth with 126.2 million passengers, the highest for traffic handled over a 12-month period by the network," it said.
On the local front, airports in Malaysia registered 7.8 million passengers in September 2017, a 3.6 per cent year-on-year growth over September 2016, it said.
International sector recorded four million passengers with a 10.8 per cent increase while domestic sector registered 3.8 million passengers, a contraction of 2.9 per cent, it said.
MAHB said international traffic for ASEAN destinations grew 11.9 per cent to 1.9 million passengers, whereas non-ASEAN traffic posted a 9.8 per cent growth to 2.1 million passengers, with overall aircraft movements improved 4.1 per cent.
"Overall, average load factor was 73.1 per cent in September 2017, a drop of 3.1 percentage points compared with the same month last year," it said.
It said passenger traffic for KLIA Main Terminal saw a decline of 3.4 per cent in September while klia2 recorded a growth of 15 per cent over September 2016 passenger numbers.
On a 12-month basis, passenger traffic for the KLIA Main Terminal registered 28.3 million passengers, an increase of 19.1 per cent while klia2 improved seven per cent with 29.2 million passengers over the corresponding period last year, it said.
Meanwhile, it said, Istanbul SGIA posted a 7.9 per cent growth in September 2017, with international and domestic passengers increased 9.5 per cent and 7.1 per cent, respectively.
"There are positive signs with respect to Istanbul SGIA international and domestic passenger movements, indicating continued recovery in traffic," it said.
