SINGAPORE, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Singapore Airlines cancelled five flights to and from Bali Monday due to the closure of the Ngurah Rai International Airport as a result of the eruption of the Mount Agung volcano.

SIA said in a post on its Facebook account that the affected flights were SQ938 / SQ939, SQ942 / SQ943, SQ946 / SQ947, SQ948 / SQ949 and MI176 / MI175.

It said customers travelling to Bali between Monday and Dec 4, with tickets issued on or before Nov 27, may contact their nearest SIA ticketing office if they would like to rebook or request a refund for their tickets.

The new travel date must be on or before Jan 31, 2018, it said.

Meanwhile, SilkAir also announced that its retimed flights, MI9128 / 9127, to Lombok Monday were cancelled.

Changi Airport issued a travel advisory Monday advising passengers to check for flight updates at changiairport.com, the iChangi app or with their airlines.

On Nov 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Singaporeans to defer non-essential travel to areas of Bali affected by the eruption of Mount Agung.

MFA said that in recent months, Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency had been warning residents and tourists to stay away from an exclusion zone of 7.5km around the crater on Bali.

It was reported that Mount Agung has been hurling clouds of white and dark, grey ash about 3,000 metres into the atmosphere since the weekend.

The volcano's last major eruption, in 1963, resulted in the deaths of about 1,100 people.
