KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has appointed Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi as Malaysia Airlines Bhd's (MAB) new Chief Operations Officer (COO), effective Feb 1, 2018.

The position was left vacant after its former COO, Izham Ismail was appointed the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

"Ahmad Luqman is an internal homegrown talent who started his career with Malaysia Airlines as a management trainee.

"After over 20 years with the company, he has vast knowledge and experience to draw upon in leading the Operations and Engineering divisions," said Izham in a statement today.

Luqman holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University.

Prior to his appointment, Luqman was the CEO of MAB Kargo, the cargo subsidiary of MAG, a role he held since September 2015.

He was responsible for the strategic formulation and development of the group's cargo business strategies and direction.

Under his tenure, MAB Kargo saw an 18 per cent growth in business volume through freighter network realignment and strategic partnerships.

Luqman had also led a transformation programme for MAB Kargo that further strengthened its position as the leading air cargo carrier in Malaysia, which included a digital transformation to capitalise on the growth of e-commerce business in the region.

During his tenure with MAB Kargo, Luqman served in various positions, covering cargo terminal operations, system operations and sales.

He was also instrumental in the development and implementation of cargo processes for the Advanced Cargo Centre at the KLIA and the Penang Cargo Centre.
