MAHB, Tourism Malaysia To Woo Inbound Tourists

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- MalaysiaAirportsHoldings Bhd (MAHB) and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (TourismMalaysia) will together promote, develop and increase inbound tourismunder a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in London recently.

In a joint statement, MAHB and Tourism Malaysia saidthe MoUalso aimed to promote global tourism from India, China and Europe.

They saidIndia and China wereprime target markets due to the countries'accessibility, passenger growth potential andlarge population.

MAHB Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazalisaid the joint marketing initiativesrequired the establishment ofa fundto supportmarketing campaign by airlines and travel industry players.

"Thefund will be used for marketing and promotional activities in both traditional and new media platforms throughout 2018, especially to promote destinations in Malaysia.

Thestatement also said Malaysiaremained one of the top Southeast Asia destinations for China, with over 23,000 flights per annum to and from KLIA and China in 2016.

There was also a steady growth inpassenger movements from China between January andOctober 2017, which increased7.8 per cent compared withthe same period in 2016.

Meanwhile, it said India wasthe sixth largest tourism source market forMalaysia, with passenger movements between India and Malaysia growing 13 per cent duringthe January-October 2017 period compared with the same period last year.
