NEW DELHI, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- AirAsia X has launched its direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Jaipur, the capital of India's Rajasthan state, with the inaugural flight landing at Jaipur International Airport on Monday evening.
In a statement today, the airline said, it would be flying the route four times per week, providing convenient connections for northwestern India residents to fly to Southeast Asia.
"Jaipur is an important tourist destination and is part of the 'Golden Triangle' which includes Delhi and Agra," it said.
AirAsia Bhd Executive Chairman/AirAsia X Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, said the new service was part of the airline's goal to meet the growing demand for regional connectivity to tier-II cities in India.
"Through the increase in flight operations from airports in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, India's regional connectivity will be enhanced, and we expect this new route to boost passenger growth between Malaysia, India and the region.
"AirAsia and AirAsia X Malaysia now flies to 19 cities in India and the group had flown more than 16 million international passengers in India since 2010," he said.
It said following the launch of the Kuala Lumpur-New Delhi direct service in February 2016, AirAsia X Malaysia had flown 184,482 passengers as of December last year.
Kamarudin said India was one of the airline's key growth markets.
"We now fly to two destinations in the world-renowned Golden Triangle with the addition of the Jaipur flights to our existing Delhi services.
"The new route had brought AirAsia Group's total weekly flights to India to 110, with a total capacity of 22,755 seats." he said.
